Choose a business structure

The legal structure of your business can affect everything from your taxes to what you're liable for. There's no legal distinction between a sole proprietorship and its owner, while limited liability companies (LLCs) and their owners are separate entities by law, which can provide more personal asset protection.

Get a federal tax ID (EIN)

An employer identification number is necessary for most businesses to file taxes, open bank accounts and handle other essential tasks. Even if you don't have employees, there are benefits to having one, such as opening a business bank account.

Tax & accounting FAQ

What should I bring to my tax appointment?
Last year's return, your W-2s and 1099s, any notices from the IRS or the state, and records of deductions such as childcare, education or business expenses.
How are fees set?
Your first consultation is no-cost. Preparation and bookkeeping fees depend on the work involved and are quoted up front before any work begins.
Can you help with both my personal and business taxes?
Yes. When you book, choose Personal or Business, or mention both, and we'll plan the appointment accordingly.
I just sold a house. Does that affect my taxes?
It can. Talk with us before filing; if you sold with DBS Real Estate, we can coordinate directly.
